Kohli on a cusp of a world record as he looks to reverse his overseas form slump
The much-awaited India v England 5 test series starts on August 4 2021. India’s captain Virat Kohli will be looking to change his dismal overseas record in the last two seasons and is also on the cusp of another world record.
In the last two seasons, Kohli has scored 625 runs in 9 tests at home at an impressive 62.50 average. However, his overseas numbers have dipped drastically in comparison. In 7 tests during the same period, Kohli has scored 332 runs in overseas at a stunningly low 25.50 average with no overseas hundreds. This is a phase which Kohli will be hell-bent to reverse as he sets very high standards for himself.
Kohli is on the verge of another big record. As a captain, he is on par with Ricky Ponting’s 41 international hundreds. Ponting scored 41 100s in 324 internationals as captain while Kohli has same number of centuries in just 201 internationals. Thus one more century as a captain will make Kohli own the record. However more than any records , Kohli needs to really fire in the 5 test series in a fragile Indian batting lineup as they get ready to counter a lethal England bowling attack in their conditions .
