Age is no bar if performances are coming

Jhulan Goswami at 38 , is still a force to reckon with in international cricket .  The fast bowling legend once again showed her class as India needed some early inspiration after their 8 wicket thrashing in the hands of South Africa in in their 1st international match after one year apart from the obvious requirement to level the series .

Batting 1st  South Africa, fresh from a resounding win in the 1st ODI ,  were jolted early as Jhulan got the 1st wicket , followed by some quality outswing bowling by Mansi Joshi who was making a coming to the Indian team . Mansi got (2/23) and Gaekwad (3/37) choked the South Africans in mid innings as they struggled to force the pace. Apart from Goddard (49) and skipper Suun Lewis (36) there was no resistance from the Proteas as Jhulan came back to finish off the innings taking 4/42 . South Africa allout 157.

Indian openers came out all guns blazing and though they lost Rodrigues early   Smriti Mandana and Poonam Raut unleashed exciting shots as the Indians advanced rapidly . Mandana was all class and showed her full array of shots, the pulls , cover drives, stepped out lofted shots as she played a dazzling knock of 80 notout to see India through in the company of Poonam Raut (62notout) who played sparkling cover drives and cuts  in her innings .

It was indeed a great women’s day present from Indian girls led by Jhulan and Smriti with great support cast from Poonam Raut , Mansi Joshi and Rajeshwari Gaekwad .

The 5 match series now at 1-1 is well set up between two equally strong teams.
