Jadeja tsunami blows away RCB as they crash to their first defeat
Jadeja tsunami blows away RCB as they crash to their first defeat. It was the Sir Ravindra Jadeja show at Mumbai on 25th April as RCB, finally tastes their first defeat after four back to back wins in IPL 2021. Jadeja’s sensational last over hitting followed by his 3 wickets crushed RCB as they lost easily by 69 runs.
Dhoni won the toss and contrary to the normal practice of fielding first at the Wankhede, chose to bat first. He judged the pitch perfectly as it turned out during RCB innings.
CSK were given a fabulous start by Gaekwad and Duplessis. Both matched each other stroke for stroke and scored 51 in the powerplay. Gaekwad (33 of25 balls ) hit some flowing cover drives till he got out in 9th over to Chahal. However, Faf Duplessis looked in menacing touch and produced some brilliant long hits down the ground for some glorious boundaries in his 50 off 41 balls. Raina scored a quickfire 24 before he holed out to Harshal Patel who dismissed Duplessis off the next ball to halt CSK’s progress. Rayudu (14) played a quick cameo before Jadeja and Dhoni got together. Jadeja initially took a while to find his bearings and it looked as if CSK will be restricted to around 160 – 165.
Harshal Patel who had figures of 3/14 of 3 overs and looked mighty impressive till then was justifiably called to bowl the final over. However, Jadeja, who was dropped on 0 by Christian, took his stance deep inside the crease and send Harshal’s slower balls down the ground for 6, 6 ,6 nb , 6 , 2 , 6, 4 in a sensational sequence of big-hitting. 37 runs in the final over took CSK to 191/4 in 20 overs. A match-winning score. Jadeja 62 not out off 28 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Jadeja tsunami blows away RCB as they crash to their first defeat
RCB actually started well with Devdutt Paddikal hitting fours and sixes for fun. However, after reaching 44/0 , RCB lost their 1st wicket as a subdued Kohli (8) got out cheaply and that triggered a sensational collapse. Paddikal after a blazing 34 off only 15 balls got out to Thakur pulling to square leg’s hands. Maxwell (22 off 15 balls) looked in good nick but today was Jadeja’s day.
Jadeja began by picking up Sundar (7) and then dealt two body blows on RCB batting clean bowling Maxwell as he tried to hoick him towards mid-wicket and then got the huge scalp of AB de Villiers (4) as he tried to drive a ball which pitched and spun away to hit the middle stump for a classic spinners dismissal. Surely that wicket was the game, set, match for CSK.
The carnage continued as Imran Tahir also got into the act, clean bowling Harshal Patel and getting Saini . The pitch was indeed gripping for the spinners as Dhoni’s decision to bat got vindicated.
The RCB innings disintegrated and finally, they finished at 122 for 9 to lose by 69 runs . Jadeja for his 62 and 3/13 was the clear man of the match .
This was a great win for CSK and should set them on their way to the playoffs. For RCB this was a humiliating defeat and can take a while to sink in. They have to flush this terrible loss out of their system soon.
