Chennai Super Kings won IPL 2023 by beating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets under DLS method in a thrilling encounter with Ravindra Jadeja hitting 4 off the last ball of the game bowled by veteran Mohit Sharma . After Sai Sudharsan ‘s magnificent 96 , Gujarat Titans piled on an imposing 214 . Then a long rain delay ensued after which CSK neded a revised target of 171 in 15 overs which they chased down after several anxious moments with Conway leading the charge and Jadeja finishing it off .
Put in to bat first Gujarat Titans started in typically aggressive manner , though Gill was dropped very early off a sitter by Deepak Chahar at square leg off a flick . Gill and Saha took on the bowling as both played sparkling shots while Gujarat Titans rattled up 62/0 in powerplay.
It took a quicksilver piece of stumping from MS Dhoni to get a dangerous looking Gill out for 39 off 20 balls as Jadeja got the breakthrough . However Sai Sudharsan started steadily while Saha took on the bowling . After a stellar knock of 54 off 39 baĺls , Saha was dismissed off a high catch to Dhoni off Chahar .
Saha’s dismissal triggered a very impressive Sai Sudharsan to shift gears as he played dazzling shots all around the ground playing glorious drives , cuts and flicks as runs came thick and fast. None of the CSK bowlers were spared as Sai Sudharsan reached 96 off 47 balls before he was lbw to Pathirana yorker . Hardik (21*) applied the finishing touches as Gujarat Titans reached an imposing 214/4 in 20 overs . A score never previously chased down in any IPL final .
In reply , soon after Ruturaj hit a four torrential rains came down. After the rains stopped , a portion of the ground got so wet that it took almost 2.5 hours to get the game restarted with a revised target of 171 in 15 overs for CSK.
Ruturaj and Conway came out all guns blazing as they played breathtaking shots to put on 78 rapidly in 6.3 overs before Ruturaj (26 off 16 balls ) got out to a skier off Noor Ahmed . Conway played several gorgeous shots before he was dismissed by Noor off a skier for 47 off 25 balls . Shivam Dube was struggling to find his timing but Rahane came out and played a dazzling knock off 27 off 13 balls that included a straight field 6 off Little . Rahane’s dismissal to Mohit brought in Ambati Rayudu who was playing his final IPL game . Rayudu after starting slowly , hit 6,4 & 6 and then got out to Mohit for a 8 ball 19 . Then came the back to back game clinching 6s by Dube off Rashid who was very expensive conceding 44 runs in 3 overs . Rayudu ‘s dismissal got Dhoni in but he was out for 0 ,caught at covers to Mohit .

Finally with 14 runs needed off the last over of Mohit , both Dube (32*) and Jadeja struggled on the first 4 balls till finally Jadeja (15* off 6 balls ) hit a straight six , then a leg side 4 to win the final for CSK in a thrilling finish as the CSK players were celebrating on the ground . Noor (2/17 ) and Mohit (3/36) were the most successful bowlers for Gujarat .
Devon Conway for his rapid 47 was the player of the match as CSK won their 5th IPL title after starting the season with several injuries on bowling front .
During the award ceremony Shubman Gill won the most valuable player contest for his brilliant season fetching him 890 runs while the best emerging player award went to Yashasvi Jaiswal for his 625 runs at 48 average and 161 strike rate
