In a big development, Delhi Capitals have retained Rishabh Pant as the captain for the remainder of the IPL 2021. The team is well placed at the top half of the league standings and the management has decided to continue with Pant even though the original captain Shreyas Iyer is fit and available to play.

Iyer was the Delhi Capital captain for the last two seasons having taken over the mantle from Gautam Gambhir midway through the 2018 season when Gambhir relinquished the captaincy after Delhi was struggling at the bottom of the table.

Iyer achieved a runner up finish in the 2020 edition in the UAE when his team lost in the final to Mumbai Indians. Hence he was all set to lead the team in the 2021 edition.

However, a shoulder injury suffered while fielding in the home odi series vs England. Put Shreyas out of action for nearly 6 months as he had to go through shoulder surgery and the resultant rehabilitation. The injury happened just before IPL 2021 as a result of which Delhi management chose Oant as the captain.

As a captain, Pant has done a decent job though he miscalculated a few of his bowlers’ overs in few games. Resulting in some short overs bowled by a few of his premier bowlers in a couple of games.

However since the overall results have been good. Pant has been widely retained as the captain for the remainder of this season.

RCB signs Akash Deep

Meanwhile, RCB has roped in promising 24-year-old Bengal fast bowler Akash Deeep. To replace injured Washington Sundar who is still recovering from a finger injury. Akash Deep has taken 35 wickets in 9 Ranji games, 17 wickets in 11 list A matches and 21 wickets in only 16 T20 matches with an impressive economy of 6.67. He can move the ball around and his incoming balls is a potent weapon.  Akash Deep will add further to the already impressive RCB pace attack which has celebrated names like Siraj , Saini and Jamieson.
