IPL updates: Lewis & Thomas added in Rajasthan Royals squad

Rajasthan Royals has been the most affected team in IPL 2021 as they go into the remainder of the event.  Non-availabilities, injuries have pushed the team to the bones of their squad. They will no longer get the services of those players in the current edition who formed the core of their squad.

Jofra Archer was out on contention long ago due to his elbow injury. Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break from cricket to deal with mental health issue. Jos Buttler has opted out due to the birth of his second child and in a new latest development. Liam Livingstone has severely injured his shoulder while diving to stop a ball in his latest domestic game in England. And thus has virtually crashed out of the remainder of IPL 2021.

Due to Buttler’s absence, Livingstone was expect to be Rajasthan’s trump card in the current edition. He was in the form of his life in the recently completed ” the hundred” event in England in which he hit some of the most mighty sixes seem or heard in a cricket field and has been scoring at a rate of 220 plus in many matches. These types of players can win matches singlehandedly but the untimely shoulder injury has given a hammer blow to Rajasthan Royals already dwindling hopes.

However, the Royals has finally managed to come up with two good replacements. Evin Lewis, the belligerent West Indies opener will replace Buttler and Oshane Thomas. A former RR player in the 2019 edition is rope it to replace Ben Stokes. Although it was not quite a like for like replacement as Stokes is more of a batting allrounder and Thomas is an out and out fast bowler. IPL updates: Lewis, Thomas added in Rajasthan Royals squad. Livingstone virtually crashes out.

Lewis is a great buy. The 29-year-old has 1318 runs to his name in 45 T20Is, at a strike rate of 158. He also scored 1847 runs for West Indies in 57 ODIs. His blistering performances for the national side also led him to be picked up by the Mumbai Indians in 2018. For whom he scored 430 runs in 16 matches across the 2018 and 2019 seasons.  Lewis further looked in ominous form in the latest 5 match T20I series against Australia.

Oshane Thomas who played for Barbados Tridents is practically an out and out fast bowler and wicket-taker who can leak runs. He played 17 T20I matches for West Indies and took 19wickets at a high economy rate of 9. In IPL he has 5 wickets in 4 matches with an economy of 7.9.

Thus with injuries, withdrawals and new recruits, it remains to be seen where the profit and loss account of Rajasthan Royals will stand after taking the aggregate of all the incidents .
