The stage is set for the playoffs . Delhi to meet Chennai in the first game for the finals at Dubai on 10 October . Head to head CSK are ahead 15-10 but Delhi have won their last four meetings including their two meetings this season . In Dubai 8 out of 11 matches are won by the team chasing and in last 7 games the chasing team has won exclusively . However playoffs are a different beast, in which runs on the board matters a lot more.
Delhi has got the best bowling attack in the competition with all the varieties . However , they have messed up run chases in their last two games in which the batted second vs Mumbai and Chennai and could have ended up losing both , chasing well below 140 . And in their last game vs RCB , poor fielding errors costed them the match . Hence Ricky Ponting has a few areas to look into and rectify. Marcus Stoinis availability is still under a cloud , hence they may keep playing Ripal Patel . On the other hand they might bring back Steve Smith for experience , judging the high stakes of the playoffs . Whether the decision of not resting few of their key players for the playoffs in the less important RCB game backfires or not it remains to be seen as Delhi is taking the field within 48 hours of the last heartbreaking game .
The openers again need to fire for Delhi as the middle order except Hetmyer , has not looked menacing .
DC Probable XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ripal Patel/Marcus Stoinis/ Steve Smith , Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan
Chennai Super Kings
CSK has lost their last 3 games and will look to change the trend. CSK has a settled unit and should go in with the same squad . No clarity yet on Raina’s fitness as that is the only change which is possible in this XI – Raina for Uthappa . Dhoni needs to send Jadeja ahead of him in the batting order as so far , he has not looked like dominating the bowling . For CSK , it’s the openers who are setting the tone and hence Delhi will look to break the stand quickly to put pressure on the middle order, that has not been scoring too heavily .
The bowling is pace oriented but Moeen Ali’s off spin could be effective against the lefthanders in the Delhi team
CSK Probable XI: Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa/Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Josh Hazlewood
The match will start from 7.30 PM onwards and will be live on star sports channels and hotstar
