When we talk about the best batsmen in IPL history , Suresh Raina comes right at the top . For a long time Raina was the highest aggregate run getter in IPL history and his dazzling knocks at the top of the order for CSK has been one of the cornerstones of CSK’s IPL success. Batting at 3 Raina has been a huge threat to all rival bowling attacks .
We go into flashback mode and revive Raina’s belligerent 100 notout vs Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2013.
It was an afternoon game starting at 4 PM . CSK batted first and Raina came to bat at 3 at 27/1 and from the word go he was in menacing touch , driving beautifully through the covers , cutting short balls and flicking off his legs to on side for boundaries as the Punjab bowlers were unable to control the run flow . The bowling attack included internationals Praveen Kumar , Piyush Chawla , experiened Manpreet Gony and rapid Perwinder Awana.
With strokeplay of highest standard Raina was sending the balls to all parts of Chepauk . He hit 7 fours and 6 sixes and some of his lofted shots straight down the ground for sixes was a treat for the eyes. Some of them real big hits of 85 to 88 metres. Such was Raina’s dominance in his 53 ball innings that the next highest scorer was Mike Hussey (35) as CSK finally scored 186/4 in their 20 overs.
Punjab did put up a good fight with half centuries from Shaun Marsh and David Miller but at the end they fell 15 run short.
