IPL flashbacks will be incomplete without a ” Dhoni Dhamaka” . He has played many a sensational knock specially in chases which he used to master and took it to a art form . The way Dhoni sets himself up in chases, just rolling over the strike initially , then mentally setting up the weaker or less form bowlers and finally going into top gear decimating the opposition bowling to win matches is a pattern that Indian cricket fans are very acquainted with .

Kings XI Punjab saw this side of Dhoni when they played CSK in an important fixture at Dharmashala, their 2nd home ground under lights .

In that game Punjab scored an imposing 192/3 batting first and helped by the dazzling strokeplay of Shaun Marsh (88) and Irfan Pathan (44*) and well supported by the Lankan duo of Jayawardene and Sangakkara.

In reply the Chennai did lose Hayden and Vijay cheaply but Raina (46 off 27 balls ) and Badrinath (53 off 36 balls) played fabulous knocks and looked well set to take CSK through . However when both got out , the match came back in balance .

Dhoni came to bat after Raina got out and played 2nd fiddle to Badrinath scoring at a run a ball while Bradinath was going for the kill but soon got out for a superb 53 with the target still some way to go . While Badri was batting Dhoni scored 22 off 18 balls trying to give Badri most of the strike .

However Badri’s dismissal was a signal for Dhoni go take over with Albie Morkel joining him . Rusty Theron of South Africa was a very good T20 bowler those days . With 29 needed off 12 balls Dhoni took on Theron and smashed the first two balls for 4 and took 13 off 19th over.

With 16 to get , Irfan Pathan came to bowl last over. Dhoni drove the first ball through extra cover for 4 , then took 2 off next ball and bludgeoned the next ball well outside off , over long on for a mighty 6 .He hit another blistering six off the 4th ball and won the match with 2 balls to spare to pick up the man of the match award and vital points for CSK as the team mates ran towards him and was all over him . CSK won by 6 wickets but Dhoni’s blistering 54 off 29 balls was the main topic of discussion after his awesome knock.
