In our IPL flashback series we start off by reviving Lasith Malinga’s brilliant yorker special bowling spell vs Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2011 at Feroz Shah Kotla New Delhi in the day night double header which started at 4 PM. It was one of the most explosive bowling spells seen in IPL history and fittingly Malinga who has been arguably the best bowler in IPL’s history provided it.
Delhi won the toss vs Mumbai Indians and batted first with their most explosive opening pair of Sehwag and Warner as the fans thronged the stadium in the afternoon to see another fiery start by Delhi. Instead it came from the bowling unit with Malinga taking control in style.
Warner was dispatched early as he tried to force a yorker on the on side . Talented Unmukht Chand had his middle stump rattled with another yorker as he tried to hit over midon and Delhi were on the mat with Sehwag getting runout. Wickets fell regularly and as Venugopal Rao (26) tried to repair the damage , Malinga came back for his 2nd spell to rattle Rao’s stumps with a in swinging full toss. Soon Morne Morkel missed an yorker and the last wicket went to a Malinga slower ball , caught at mid off with Dehi bundled out for 95 and Malinga taking 5/13 to get the player of the match.
Mumbai easily overhauled the target for the loss of 2 wickets with Tendulkar (46) and Rohit Sharma (27) staying notout.
This it was of of those searing Malinga spells which had been one of those great IPL moments as he has done so many other times for Mumbai Indians .
