With just a few days left for IPL 2023 to start, injury problems have become a big issue for many of the teams and we may see a few replacement players coming in .
Firstly of course we had the unfortunate accident of Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant who will not only be missing the IPL but is now likely to miss cricket for the full year though he is gradually on the road of recovery. As per reports , Delhi Capitals may have already decided to make David Warner the captain for this season although they are yet to make it public in their social media platforms . Probably the news will be published after the India vs Australia 3 match short ODI series . Pant’s injury will definitely be a huge blow for the Capitals as he is one of the mainstays in the team and a vital cog in the batting lineup apart from his keeping .
Similarly Kolkata Knight Riders have suffered a big blow with Shreyas Iyer having a recurrence of his back problem and is at NCA . No fixed date is announced from when he will be available. In all likelihood he may miss a major part of IPL , or the first half or even the whole tournament depending on the speed of his recovery . From the KKR ranks , they might make left handed batting allrounder Nitish Rana as the captain and start their campaign with him at the helm till Iyer returns .
Mumbai Indians have already been dealt a double blow. Jasprit Bumrah is already ruled out of IPL 2023 as he has gone to New Zealand for his back surgery which has happened successfully but he will be out of action for several months . As they were still coming to terms with Bumrah injury , their new recruit Jhye Richardson, the Aussie quick is also injured which is a big blow to their preparations and their chances as Richardson is going to also miss the IPL. Now Mumbai Indians is looking for a pace replacement who will partner, the recently recovered Jofra Archer in their bowling attack.
Meanwhile RCB received a bad news of their english recruit , the aggressive batter Will Jacks getting injured . Jacks is out of IPL too . RCB are in talks with Kiwi allrounder Michael Bracewell and he could come in as a replacement for Jacks.
Chennai Super Kings too are not out of injury scare. Kyle Jamieson , the tall New Zealand quick will miss out on this IPL due to injury . Jamieson would have been a key component in CSK bowling attack this season specially when CSK play their away games.
There is an injury setback for Rajasthan Royals too as Prasidh Krishna is ruled out of this IPL due to stress fracture. Prasidh’s absence is likely to have a big effect on the Royals bowling attack.
Thus the IPL 2023 will start off with a few injury news and some key players across a few teams will miss out .
