IPL 2021 : Mumbai Indians team analysis

The 5 times champion had won their last title only 5 months back in UAE and hence will be the frontrunners for the title with hardly any movements in last auction.  With their core team in place , their strengths totally submerge any weaknesses they might have in their side .   As Michael Vaughan famously said , this Mumbai Indian  team can win the T20I world cup if they are fielded against top international teams and that’s a huge compliment.

Strengths :

Mumbai Indians always thrived on stability like CSK . The batting selects itself.  D Kock , Rohit , Kishan , Surya , all rounders Pollard , Krunal  and Hardik make their best batting core with someone like Chris Lynn waiting in the wings.  Rohit Sharma is presently in great form. Surya and Ishan Kishan are fresh from their successful debuts in international cricket and add a lot of firepower in the middle order which multiplies with the arrivals of Pollard and the Pandya brothers. One  concern can be the form of D Kock who did not look at his best in the latest international matches he played Pakistan but if he gets back in touch he is lethal at the top.

The bowling of MI has always been incisive . The always go for wickets and have the bowling to execute their plans . Bumrah and Boult is the most lethal fast bowling combo in the IPL and they will be a handful again. Coulter Nile is still a top class bowler who can bat too . The team has picked up Adam Milne from the auction and he can add to the pace and wicket taking ability.  Another import from auction is a tall and rookie left armfast bowler from South Africa Marco Jansen who can be a surprise element in this IPL .  The MI scouts always have a knack of springing surprises and Jansen can be a guy to watch .

Also Hardik Pandya is back to bowling which will give MI the required cover.

The spin stocks are Rahul Chahar , Krunal Pandya , Jayant Yadav and Anukul Roy . Thus Mumbai Indians are adequately covered in all areas .

Weaknesses :

Hardly any weakness in the team. The only possible area of slight  concern is the spin stocks as their is some lack of experience there . However Mumbai has been winning even with less seasoned spinners .
Also the current form of Quinton D Kock in batting  is a slight worry.

There could be another weakness for this season if it can be termed that way . No team will be playing at home . Mumbai Indians will play most of their games in Chennai and Delhi, which have much slower pitches compared to Wankhede where the fast bowlers get lots of carry and bounce . Hence the fast bowlers of MI will have to adapt to other pitches this season lot more .

Possible starting XI :

Rohit , D Kock , Surya , Kishan , Pollard , Krunal , Hardik , Coulter Nile , Bumrah, Boult, Rahul Chahar

As usual the strong  favourites again .
