We are inching closer to the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League but there are still many uncovered stories and today is the day of the 10th season of IPL also known as Vivo IPL 2017. The season started with Hyderabad hosting the opening and the final match on April 5, 2017, and May 21, 2017, respectively. Mumbai Indians won the final match of the season against Rising Pune Supergiant after a nail-biter of a match. The season finale match was won by the MI by 1 run. The excitement and the nerve-wracking pressure in the team, as well as the fans, can be very well imagined.

While the season went on there were many details that made the 10th edition more interesting apart from the super exciting final match. Let’s take a trip down the memory lane of Vivo IPL 2017.

Super special season for Mumbai Indians

We know that the season winner was Mumbai Indians but the season had become all the more exciting and special for the franchise and the team as they were moving closer and closer to the accomplishment of the unattained. Mumbai Indians was the second team to have won 2 IPL titles in the past and the win of 2017 would have made them the first team with 3 IPL trophies. The pressure of making this dream come true must be huge but the Rohit Sharma-led team did it.

Mumbai Indians won its third title and created history on May 21, 2017. 

Change in the opening ceremony

All the previous IPL seasons were adorned by one grand opening ceremony which the viewers had grown used to witnessing. But this IPL season brought one more special and that was the opening ceremony at each new venue before the first match at the venue. 

Even though the board was holding many ceremonies but it did not compromise with the grandeur, The ceremonies featured performances by international and Bollywood dancing and singing stars and the list of performers included Amy Jackson who performed at Hyderabad, Shalmali Kholgade, and Riteish Deshmukh at Pune, Bhoomi Trivedi and Sachin-Jigar and Tiger Shroff at Rajkot, Harshdeep Kaur and Disha Patani at Indore, Benny Dayal, Kriti Sanon at Bangalore, Sushant Singh Rajput and Malaika Arora at Mumbai, Shillong Chaber, Monali Thakur and Shraddha Kapoor at Kolkata, Raftaar, Yami Gautam and Guru Randhawa at Delhi. That’s a whole lot of stars but IPL has always been the sky full of the brightest of stars so it was not new for the fans.

The list of ‘Most’s’

Each season ends with one team carrying the trophy proudly and smiling at the fans and other teams start preparing for next season and next wins. At the same time, there are players who irrespective of the fact that their team could not be the winning team earn huge respect from the audience and titles from the tournament. Yes, we are talking about the players who end up with the maximum number of runs, wickets, catches, etc.

IPL 2017 was the IPL of surprises in this respect as the winning team did not have any players on the list of the players who hit maximum runs in this season. The first one to make the entry in the list was Davis Warner from Sunrisers Hyderabad and he had hit a whopping 641. Warner was followed by KKR’s Gautam Gambhir with 498 and Shikhar Dhawan again from Sunrisers Hyderabad with 479 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah of Mumbai Indians obtained 3rd spot in the list with 19 wickets while the first and the second spot went to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jaydev Unadkat respectively. Kumar had taken 26 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Jaydev had taken 24 for Rising Pune Supergiant.

Dhoni was the captain of the team Pune Supergiant for the first two seasons of the team but he was replaced by Australian skipper Steve Smith during the third season. However, the team did not win even under Smith but he did take the team to the final. 

During this time Harsh Goenka, Sanjiv Goenka’s brother posted a series of comments on Twitter speaking ill about the previous skipper. He wrote, “Smith proves who’s the king of the jungle. Overshadows Dhoni. Captains innings. Great move to appoint him as captain.”

Though his comments did not impact Captain Cool even a bit. He continued playing the great game for which he is known.

War between brothers

This war was a digital war for the world to see which took place on Twitter. Hardik Pandya took to Twitter to express his disappointment with his elder brother Krunal Pandya’s performance. Both the players were an integral part of Mumbai Indians. Virendra Sehwag also joined this banter but the reason for the same remains unclear. Krunal Pandya took the high road in this argument and put an end to it saying that being the elder brother he would like to bring the argument to end. Manjrekar vs Pollard

Sanjay Majrekar commented something about Pollard which was objected upon by the cricketer and it was objectionable as Manjrekar said that Pollard did not have any brains to bat in the top-order. This was said during a match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata.

Majrekar was tagged by the West Indies cricketer on Twitter and wrote, “U feel any positive can come out of your mouth bcuz u get pay to talk u can continue with your verbal diarrhea.”
