Intentions of Globalization of cricket in ICC latest events calendar from 2023-31
The ICC has listed down its events itinerary from 2023 to 2031 which includes the T20I world cup every 2 years, ODI world cup every 4 years, Champions trophy every 4 years and World test Championships every 2-year cycle.
The itinerary has ensured a world event every year. The ICC plans to raise the number of teams to 14 for the next ODI world cup and 20 for the T20I world cup. The intentions are loud and clear. Cricket globalisation is at the top of the agenda and through T20I cricket. The ICC is taking a step in that direction as T20 is the easiest format to absorb the new cricket nations. Before they can graduate to the 50 over format. With the T20I World cup due every 2 years. The new cricket nations will get ample scope of exposure against the top teams.
Intentions of Globalization of cricket in ICC latest events calendar from 2023-31. Though for the purists the ICC 8 year calendar appears to be too congested. It is done with the purpose of encouraging the non-test playing nations to uplift their game so that in the near future cricket can be a part of the Olympics.
In the world cup of other sports, there is healthy participation in the tournament proper. After qualifying rounds like in World Cup soccer that one time in the 1970s we used to have 16 teams. Now the number has enhanced to 32. Thus ICC is looking forward to their globalisation plans .
