After a great series levelling win in 2nd ODI , the Indian ladies could not keep up their momentum while South African women showed more firepower in winning two successive games to take an unassailable series lead as the Indian bowling showed lack of depth .
In the 3rd ODI India totalled 248/5 with Punam Raut scoring a neat 77 . However in the slog overs the innings did not get the required impetus resulting in a chaseable target with South Africans were chasing down well supported by a brilliant 132 from Luzelle Lee till rain intervened resulting in a Duckworth’s Lewis win for South Africa by 5 runs as Indian bowling looked out of depth apart from the brilliance of Jhulan Goswami.
In the 4th ODI , Punam Raut scored a superb 104 showing that she is ready to take up the mantle of the number 3 spot . Mithali’s 45 and later Harmanpreet’s dazzling 35 ball 54 took India to a challenging score of 266. However Luzelle Lee (69) again rose to the occasion as the top four scored 50 plus with Du Preez scoring 61 as the Proteas successfully chased down against a poor Indian bowling attack without Goswami to take an unassailable 3-1 series lead with one match to play .
It goes without saying that the India bowling has been a let down in the series apart from 2nd ODI . Goswami at 38 is not getting any younger inspite of her stellar shows and Shikha Pandey needs to be reinstated . Headaches galore for Team management.
