Indian thinktank in England wants both Shaw and Paddikal to fly to London
There have been some frantic developments in Indian cricket circles in the past 24 hours after Shubman Gill’s injury as the Indian team management in England has apparently requested the Indian chief selector Chetan Sharma to release both openers Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Paddikal from the Srilanka white ball series so that they can join the Indian test squad for the England series.
With Gill out of action for 2 months due to injury and test matches will be played back to back. The think tank wants to take no chances and wants both Shaw and Paddikal in England. Indian thinktank in England wants both Shaw and Paddikal to fly to London.
Currently, both the above players are in Sri Lanka for the white ball series.
Indian test squad has 2 openers apart from Gill and they are Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. Also Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Bengal opener is on standby. However, the team management’s decision to ask for Shaw and Paddikal seems to suggest that they are considering KL Rahul. As a middle-order option and are not yet confident on the credentials of Easwaran. Who had an average domestic season in 2019-20.
Strangely there has been no immediate response by the chief selector Chetan Sharma on the request from the Team Management from England.
It remains to be seen what transpires in this context.
Both Shaw and Paddikal had participated in the intrasquad game in Srilanka as the Indian white-ball squad prepares itself for the ODI & T20I series on the island .
