Indian bowlers fail to defend 307 as New Zealand win by 7 wkts in 1st ODI

Team India had to face defeat in the first ODI against New Zealand. For New Zealand, wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham scored a brilliant century and gave victory to the Kiwi team. & captain Kane Williamson also played an excellent innings as the Indian bowling attack looked flat .

For New Zealand, star batsman Tom Latham played a glorious innings of 145 runs studded with delightful shots . Skipper Kane Williamson played with him. Kane scored 94 runs as he played a crucial role in winning the game .

Due to both these batsmen, Team India had to face defeat. For India, Shardul Thakur took one and Umran Malik took 2 wickets. Both Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh made their debut for Team India in this match.

However overall it was a disappointing outing for team india bowling attack. Chahal looked bereft of ideas and the fast bowlers were easy meal for Latham & Williamson after the cheap dismissals of Allen, Conway and Mitchell

Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer’s played a brilliant innings of 80 runs in 76 balls, thanks to Shubman Gill and Shikhar’s century partnership (124 runs), India scored 306 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Thus, New Zealand has been given a target of 307 runs to win. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first,

The start of the Indian team was excellent. Opener captain Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill played a brilliant century partnership. However, after completing a sublime half-century, Gill was caught by Conway off the bowling of bowler Lockie Ferguson. During this, 124 runs were scored for the first wicket of the team. Shreyas Iyer came to the crease after Gill’s dismissal.


Captain Shikhar Dhawan returned to the pavilion in the very next over. Dhawan was caught by Finn Allen off the ball of Tim Southee. During this, he scored a fluent innings of 72 runs in 77 balls with the help of 13 fours. After that, Pant came to the crease and led the innings with Iyer. Iyer surprised everyone by playing his brilliant innings and scored 80 runs in 76 balls with the help of four fours and four sixes. However, he got caught by Southee’s ball and handed over the catch to Conway. Iyer during his innings played some fabulous shots including some good pull shots thus showing his improvements in negotiating short ball.

Sanju Samson (38) played the good knock while Washington Sundar blasted 37 off 16 balls to take India past 300. Pant (15) failed again in a white ball game , bowled Fergusion .

Bowlers Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took 3 wickets each . Southee took Dhawan, Iyer and Shardul Thakur’s scalps . At the same time, Ferguson dismissed Gill, Pant and Surya Kumar Yadav . Adam Milne took the wicket of batsman Sanju Samson.
