Rohit Sharma finally realises his dream of scoring his maiden overseas test hundred at the Oval. His high-quality knock and his partnerships with KL Rahul & Cheteshwar Pujara helped India to reach 270/3 before bad light stopped play with India leading by 171 runs.

The day began on 46/0 and KL Rahul looked the aggressor while Rohit was playing solidly. There was some fine drives and glides on the offside by Rahul who however was troubled by luckless Woakes. Finally, with his score on 46, Rahul edged Anderson to be caught behind , the verdict going in favour of England after they took a review.

Pujara came in and like in the Leeds test 2nd innings he started to be the aggressor and played some superb backfoot shots. Meanwhile, Rohit after his long vigil also started to play shots while they looked inseparable. Rohit was showing lots of determination and application , played the line of the ball, using soft hands and was in full control. He looked determined and played some delightful shots like one straight drive down the ground. From  70s to 100 he scored his runs more quickly and dealt almost in boundaries. Finally, at 94 , he stepped out and voiced Moren over long on for a huge six to complete at sensational 100.

Pujara favoured his backfoot play and also played some magnificent back foot shots including an uppercut , Viru style . He got a well deserved 50.

However, as soon as the new ball was taken , Ollie Robinson brought instant success for England by getting Rohit to miscue a pull and spoon up a straight catch to Woakes at deep backward square leg . Rohit’s magnificent innings of 127 came from 256 balls with 14 fours and 1 six.

Off the last ball of the 80th over Robinson got Pujara (61) to edge one and the ball rebounded off his body for an easy catch to Moeen at 3rd slip to leave India at 237/3.

However Virat Kohli (22*) and Jadeja (9*) batted well without further alarms and lived to fight another day as India reached 270/3 before bad light stopped play .

It was a hard grind for the English bowlers . Woakes bowled well without luck , Anderson looked a bit subdued but Robinson took 2 wickets

With 171 run lead ,and 7 wickets in hand , India will try to expand the score more on the 4th morning while England will look to get wickets  quickly.  If the lead reaches 250 plus the home side will begin to worry more .
