Ind v Eng 1st Test : India take vital 95 runs lead in another rain affected day
The day 3 had another bout of rain interruptions which allowed only around 50 overs of play. Time enough for India to recover from 125/5 to 278 & take a 95 run lead thanks to some gritty lower order resilience . When rain finally took over England had progressed to 25/0 .
India started with Rahul and Pant. When Rahul was the epitome of patience , carrying on in the same vein as in day 2 , Pant showed his aggression in his brief 25 off 20 balls before he was caught at short cover off a slower ball.
The best partnership of the day came from Rahul and Jadeja to the tune of 60 priceless runs . Both batsmen took their time and punished loose deliveries . However Jimmy Anderson struck again at 205/5 by getting Rahul (84) caught behind off another ball that moved away slightly and soon had Shardul (0) snicking an away going ball. For England , Anderson (4/54) went past Kumble in all time highest wicket takers list after getting his 620th test wicket while Ollie Robinson ( 5/85) kept producing Test class performances with a fifer.
After conceding a deficit of 95 runs , England openers added 25/0 in the 2nd innings before rains halted any further process on the 3rd play .
