Ind v Eng 1st Test: 5th day’s play washed out by rain
It is a matter of great shame that the Trent Bridge test which was so excitingly poised with India needing 157 runs to win with 9 wickets in hand had to be washed out on the 5th day and declared a draw. Both teams get 4 WTC points each as a result of this draw.
There was a lot of expectations of an intriguing final day with both teams in with a chance of a win. However, humans do not have any control over the weather.
India looked the more dominant team in the 1st test having taken a 95 run first innings lead and got the England 2nd innings to end rapidly after Root’s dismissal. The Indian bowlers especially Bumrah had an outstanding match. They batted well too in the lower order. Bumrah took 9/110 in the game and was the best bowler from either side. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma’s opening batting was a big positive for India with both of them showing good technical application, playing close to their body and leaving lots of balls. Rahul had a great test comeback with scores of 82 & 26 in challenging batting conditions. However, the Indian middle-order has some work to do.
England has a bigger question mark on their batting and had not been for the man of the match Joe Root’s two great knocks of 64 and 109 under pressure, England would have lost the test in 4 days. The England bowling however was good in most parts. Ind v Eng 1st Test: 5th day’s play washed out by rain.
The 2nd test at Lords will be starting from August 12
