After losing the Test series against India, the news is not good for Australia even before the ODI series.  Australia’s regular captain Pat Cummins, who returned home after the second Test in Delhi, has now been ruled out of the ODI series against India.  It was informed by Cricket Australia that he is not returning to India for the ODI series and Smith will be the captain of the team in his place.

Pat Cummins had to return to Australia due to the deteriorating health of his mother, after which he has not returned.  Actually, his mother had passed away last week due to breast cancer.  Cummins is away from cricket for the same personal reasons.

In the absence of Pat Cummins, once again Steve Smith will be seen leading Australia in the ODI series.  It was under Smith’s captaincy that Australia won the Indore Test and after that got the ticket for the WTC final.  Now it is the responsibility of the team to win the ODI series with  Smith as captain.

Pat Cummins took over the ODI captaincy of Australia after the retirement of Aaron Finch.  So far, he has taken the command of Australia in just 2 ODIs.

Meanwhile David Warner and Ashton Agar , both of whom returned to Australia in the middle of the test series will be back in India for the ODIs
