Ishan Kishan is unleashed in international cricket !!
Making his Indian debut in the 2nd T20I vs England , the 22 year old pocket dynamo has announced his arrival in international cricket in grand style scoring a blazing 54 off 32 balls against a quality bowling attack of England and thereby setting a great foundation for a clinical Indian victory.
This is only his first match for India and he has to prove a lot at the top level but the talent and firepower that he has exhibited at the top order has provided India an explosive batting option for powerplays , something that the think tank was craving for a long time . India in past has shown very conservative approach in powerplays but this may or should change now with arrival of Kishan .
Kishan played for India in the under 19 World cup in 2016 ( Pant was also in same team) and in the same year hit 273 , his highest first class score in Ranji trophy ( hitting 14 sixes off 336 balls) against Delhi in a high scoring game in which Jharkhand batted first and scored 493 , got Delhi bowled out for 334 and made them follow on. In Delhi’s first innings Pant hit 117 off 106 balls with 8 sixes . Following on Delhi scored 480/6 as match ended in a draw . In 2nd innings too Pant hit a century – 135 off 67 balls , 13 sixes. Thus in their most famous face off in domestic cricket both Kishan and Pant came out with flying colours with sensational 100s.
Kishan made his presence felt in IPL but his real consistency came in the last IPL at UAE in which he smashed 517 runs at 57 average and 145 strike rate in blistering fashion. His dazzling knock of 99 off 58 balls vs RCB in a memorable match lost by Mumbai in super over was one of the greatest innings ever in IPL , almost winning the match for Mumbai from a hopeless situation, with some explosive hitting in last few overs ever seen in IPL . His 119 run stand with Pollard off just 51 balls tied the scores and he was in tears after getting out at 99 with victory in sight. In 2018 edition too Ishan played a blistering knock of 62 off 21 balls vs KKR at Eden Gardens. These knocks has already made him a serious contender for India’s T20 setup and a serious matchwinner .
Facing bowlers like Boult , Coulter Nile , Pattinson at Mumbai Indian nets and negotiating some top fast bowlers with fiery hitting in IPL had already made him ready for international cricket. Hence he looked so much at ease when making his debut for India as he already had great belief in his abilities after having brushed his shoulders with the best in IPL .
His bat swing and bat speed and his wide range of shots against both pace and spin has made him an exceptional talent. His drives and cuts are played with timing and savage power and he pulls fast bowlers with ease and brutal fashion . Also equally strong against spinners stepping out and lifting them into the stands . For his size , he packs a lot of punch and his batting bears lot of resemblance with South African Quinton D Kock who plays with him for Mumbai Indians . Even in height and looks both appears similar .
Thus the IPL environment has helped in building strong temperament amongst Indian hopefuls who learn quickly how to adapt in international cricket. Ishan Kishan like Pant and few others before him has already transformed himself into a mentally tough cricketer and found to be temperamentally strong . He never looked out of place in his 1st match for India and could be a triumph card for India in near future .
India needs to nurture his talent and digest his failures as if Ishan Kishan fires , the team will end up winning cricket matches .
Like Pant , India has got another fabulous matchwinner who also bats lefthanded.
