Hasaranga & Shamsi leading replacements for few IPL teams before IPL 2021 resumption
The leggies are likely to be in demand as many IPL franchisees are trying to sort out their squads. Because of likely withdrawals by many overseas players due to national commitments around phase 2 of IPL 2021.
Two of the most common names doing the rounds are the number 1 and 2 8n the World T20I. Bowling rankings Tabraiz Shamsi of South Africa and Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.
Both leg spinners had outstanding recent successes. Shamsi was brilliant with the ball in South Africa vs West Indies T20I series which proved to be an exciting one and ultimately won by South Africa in which Shamsi had a big role to play taking 7 wickets at an economy of around 4 per over which is mind-boggling against batting firepower of reigning champions West Indies. Hasaranga & Shamsi leading replacements for few IPL teams before IPL.
On the other hand, Hasaranga spun a web around the young Indian batsmen taking 7 wickets in the 3 match series including a 4/9 in the final T20I as Sri Lanka wrapped up the series 2-1 against India.
Hasanraga also has good lower-order batting skills which is an added advantage.
Sri Lanka & South Africa will play a series of white-ball matches ending on 12 September just before the IPL. Hence both Hasaranga and Shamsi will come head to head against each other. Should be available if they are picked by any IPL team.
At least 3 franchises, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangaluru are looking for replacements.
Rajasthan is looking for Ben Stokes’ replacement, for which Hasaranga provides the required all-round skills . Same for CSK too as they are not expected to have Moeen in September.
RCB will be missing Zampa, hence anyone of Shamsi and Hasaranga can be an option. Shamsi has also earlier played for RCB briefly.
With IPL just 6 weeks away, we will soon get to know the fate of these two outstanding leg spinners of T20I cricket
