While England struggle to compete with India in India , one of their premier fast bowlers is struggling to leave upto the expectations .
When Jofra Archer made his test debut in Ashes 2019 , he was already regarded as as fast bowler with great pace and he soon proved it in the series knocking down Steve Smith at Lords and bowling brilliantly with pace and hostility at other times. He took 22 wickets in the 4 tests he played averaging little over 20 and bowled with great pace and venom and showed enough skills to make the ball move around . England selectors were overjoyed .
However since that highly successful Ashes series , Archer seems to have lost his mojo. He had a very flat tour in New Zealand and bowled much below his pace. He did well in the single test he played in South Africa getting 6 wickets but was again back to mediocrity in the home series vs West Indies and Pakistan and again in the current series in India.
In the 9 tests he played after the 2019 Ashes Jofra has taken 20 wickets only at 43 average which are very poor returns for someone who is considered as a fear factor .
Thr pace seems to be missing totally . on the 1st day of the 3rd test at Ahmedabad he looked only medium fast and could not create much impression with the pink ball . Even in the first test , he lacked pace and looked average except for a few overs .
The question now on everyone’s minds. Has Jofra Archer lost his x factor ?
Definitely worrying signals for England selectors .
