Harbhajan Singh feels Dravid is not suited for T20Is, prescribes a new assistant coach

After the humiliating defeat at the hands of England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, veteran cricketers are demanding major changes in Team India.  In this, the need to change both captain and head coach in limited overs is also being spoken about .  Now former bowler Harbhajan Singh has given his opinion .  He said that Ashish Nehra or someone like him should be made the coach of the T20 team as he understands the shortest international format of the game better than current head coach Rahul Dravid.

Nehra had retired from the game in 2017 and was instrumental in helping Gujarat Titans win the title on their IPL debut earlier this year.  Harbhajan said ‘, “In T20 format you should have someone like Ashish Nehra, who recently said goodbye to the game.  He understands this format better.  I have played with Rahul for a long time and have full respect for him.  I am not questioning his understanding of the game but this format is a bit different and difficult.

Harbhajan said, “Whoever has played this game recently is better suited for the coaching job in T20.  I am not saying that you should remove Rahul from T20.  Both Ashish and Rahul can work together to build the team for the 2024 World Cup.”

Harbhajan is part of the Delhi Bulls team in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and is in Abu Dhabi.

England’s T20 World Cup victory has fuelled the debate of selecting different coaches and players for different formats.  He said, “With such an arrangement, it would be easier for Rahul to take a break as well and in his absence, Nehra can take over as the coach of the team.”
