Gavaskar wants India to change its playing XI before toss by adding a batsman
With rains falling and wet conditions before the start of the WTC final, former Indian great, Sunil Gavaskar feels that India should change their XI by bringing in the extra batter in place of a spinner with bowling conditions favouring the seamers.
With wet conditions, it is expected that the ball will move around and hence the extra batting cover is essential at the expense of a spinner who may not thrive in these conditions with more rains predicted in the following days, feels Gavaskar. Gavaskar wants India to change its playing XI before toss by adding a batsman instead of a spinner..
Thus Sunny wants that Hanuma Vihari is included in the XI as a 6th batter and with Pant batting at 7. The lineup will look more stable with India going in with 4 bowlers ( 3 seamers, one spinner).
Sunny also disclosed that during his playing days he used to make last-minute changes in the XI just moments before toss. After looking at the opposition list. He said that it is legitimate to revise or modify the XI. As long as the toss has not taken place.
It may be recalled that India had already announced their playing XI. 24 hours before the scheduled start of the test. The first day was subsequently washed out due to rain.
With better weather predicted on Saturday ( 2nd day). The toss is sure to take place and the match is poised to start.
