Gavaskar not sure if Kohli’s team can emulate the domination of W.Indies or Australia in their respective eras
Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his opinion that though Virat Kohli’s current Indian team has shown their talent and ability, they cannot be put in the same bracket as the world-beating West Indies or Australia team in their respective successful eras.
Gavaskar not sure if Kohli’s team can emulate the domination of W.Indies or Australia in their respective eras. It may be mentioned that the all-conquering West Indies with their fast bowling. Arsenal ruthlessly demolished all opposition during their golden era. From the late 1970s to the end of the 1980s and for a 15 year period from March 1980 till May 1995.
Similarly, Australia had their ruthless streak from 1995 to 2008 during which time. They had two 16 match-winning streaks in test cricket and 3 back to back world cups from 1999 to 2007.
Gavaskar feels that though the current team under Virat Kohli has shown encouraging signs and has started winning in all conditions. They are still far away from scaling the heights of the great West Indies. Australian sides as at times there are spells of inconsistencies in this team.
” I am not too sure they’ll be able to dominate like West Indies did. They were winning all five Test matches, even Australian were, winning four out of five. I’m not too sure if this Indian team can do that because of the fact. That while they are actually a supremely talented team, there are at times inconsistencies that you see. That is the only thing that makes me hold my breath a little bit. But as far as the potential of this team is concerned, I think sky is the limit,” Gavaskar clarified.
The current India team with a solid fast bowling contingent and several backups can make this England tour, a series to remember after their Australian heroics where despite being ravage by multiple injuries to important players, the team rose above themselves to inflict a famous series defeat on Australia in their own backyard .
