Gavaskar downplays any advantage for New Zealand being match ready before WTC final
With less than 3 weeks to go for the WTC final, it has been widely mentioned that New Zealand will be more match ready than India before the WTC final on account of playing 2 tests against England from the start of June. The England tests are scheduled from June 2-6 and June 10-14.
However Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar is not ready to subscribe to this view. He is of the view that there is a flip side to this theory. Gavaskar downplays any advantage for New Zealand being match ready before WTC final.
Sunny feels that if New Zealand suffers defeat in those 2 tests against England who are formidable in their own conditions in June. If the manner of those defeats is on the heavier side. The kiwis may suffer from a crisis of confidence as they get into the WTC finals.
Apart from defeats, with two back to back tests there could be the odd niggles and injury issues as well. Which can happen in June in England. And that can also set back the Kiwis a bit before the big final.
Thus Sunny feels that New Zealand can suffer in both mental and physical aspect before starting their WTC final game against the Indians. Who will be more mentally and physically fresh and niggle-free going into the test and will be more hungry to play after a long rest.
All eyes are on the WTC final which starts from the 17th of June.
