Gavaskar criticizes Nasser Hussain on his comments that past Indian teams were easily bullied
The heat of the India v England series is even getting to the commentators. After Lords test Nasser Hussain had commented that Virat Kohli’s Indian side cannot be bullied like past Indian teams. He was referring to England’s tactics of trying to go after the Indian batsmen at Lords with verbals.
Picking up Nasser’s comments on ” past Indian teams”. Sunil Gavaskar came back with scathing comments to refute ” aspersions” cast on past Indian teams.
Gavaskar went after Hussein asking him which Indian team he is talking about? Then he went on to give history of past glories of India in England.
He said in 1971 India won series in England 1-0. In 1974 India failed due to internal squabbles in the team. In 1979 India would have levelled the series 1-1 but fell just short of chasing 438 target .in 1982 India lost by the narrowest of margins (1-0) but in 1986 India won convincingly by 2-0 which could have been 3-0. Gavaskar criticizes Nasser Hussain on his comments that past Indian teams were easily bullied.
Nasser was totally caught off guard by Gavaskar’s forceful answer to his comment above.
It may be mentioned further that India did well in 2002 series. Drawing 1-1 and then coming back to win in 2007 by 1-0.
It was only in the 2010s decade that India fared very poorly in England having lost 0-4 in 2011, 1-3 in 2014 and 1-4 in 2018 .
