Gavaskar concerned with Indians going straight to WTC final from 2 months IPL

Veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar feels that going straight from IPL T20 to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) will be a tough challenge for the Indian batsmen. The WTC final between India and Australia will be played at The Oval from June 7. Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans on Monday and both the teams have players who are going to play in the WTC final.

Gavaskar said that the biggest test for everyone will be that they will have to play the longer format Test in a T20 mood. Only Cheteshwar Pujara is playing in the English County Championship. Only he is doing well in the longer format cricket in the current conditions. Apart from him, it will be a tough challenge for everyone.

He said that 34-year-old Rahane has experience of English conditions and it will be beneficial for the team. Rahane has more experience of playing in England and has scored runs there as well. I think he will be a key player at number five. He will also compensate for this space. There is still a lot of cricket left in him. It is a great opportunity for him to re-secure his place in the Test team.
