Former Indian opener and KKR captain Gautam Gambhir was stunned at the captaincy decisions of Eoin Morgan during powerplay in the match between RCB and KKR.
Gambhir was vehemently critical of Morgan for not bowling Varun Chakravarthy in the next over after the leggie got 2 wickets in the first over of the match against RCB, one of which was the prized scalp of Virat Kohli.
Gambhir said that it was one of the most weird decisions that he has ever seen from a captain not to bowl the bowler in the next over after he has taken two wickets in the first over.
Gambhir felt that had Varun came on in the next over and got Maxwell who had just come in, the game would have been over and AB De Villiers would have batted under lots of pressure. Instead, the bowling was changed and Maxwell settled down.
Gambhir feels that though de Villiers was to come next, KKR should have thrived on the momentum created by the fall of 2 wickets in the first over and bowled the same bowler in the next over.
Gambhir also added that thankfully the error was committed by a non-Indian captain as had this been an Indian captain making this move, daggers would have been out against him in media circles.
Morgan’s decision to replace Varun with Shakib in the 3rd over backfired and Maxwell thrived on the change to Steele down and produce a scintillating innings which shifted the momentum conclusively in RCB’s favour.
