Former Australian cricket superstar & two time World champion Andrew Symonds dies in a car crash

In the early hours of Sunday, the cricket world has woke up to a tragic news .  Australian legendary cricketer Andrew Symonds has died in a car accident.  It is being told that his car came off the road in Townsville on Saturday night and the cricketer died in the accident.  After the death of Andrew Symonds, there is a wave of mourning in the sports world including his fans.  Recently, Australian cricket also lost the legend leg spinner Shane Warne.

 According to a police statement, “Preliminary information indicated that the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road near Ellis River Bridge just after 11 p.m. The car rolled off the road and the accident occurred. Emergency services were called . Tried to save the 46  year-old driver, however he died due to his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.”

 According to a News Corp report, Symonds’ family issued a statement “confirming his passing, and appreciated the sympathy and well wishes of the people, and asked that his privacy be respected.”

 Symonds, who played 198 ODIs for Australia, was also part of the 2003 and 2007 World Cup squads.  In these two years, Australia won back to back titles under the captaincy of Ponting without losing any match.  Apart from this, this great player also played 26 Tests for Australia.

 Former Australia captain Allan Border paid tribute to Symonds.  Talking to Nine Network, he said, ‘He wanted to hit the ball long and entertain the fans.  He was kind of an old-fashioned cricketer.

 In recent years, Symonds worked as a TV commentator for Fox Sports and was a regular on the microphone for Big Bash League broadcasts.

 Symonds played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is for Australia.  During this, his bat scored 1462  test runs , 5088 ODI runs  and 337 T20I runs respectively.  At the international level, he took a total of 165 wickets in all three formats. 

 Symonds was also known for his aggressive and excellent fielding and was also regarded as a captaincy material by many experts.

Andrew Symonds was involved in that famous monkeygate controversy with Harbhajan Singh in the Sydney Test of 2007 which India lost . Harbhajan was accused of making racial remarks by the Austraians and the whole issue blew up into a huge controversy . The whole issue took a legal hearing for the test series to continue.

Symonds played in the IPL in the early years of this mega event and has won an IPL title with Deccan Chargers in 2009. Later on he also played for Mumbai Indians along with Harbhajan Singh and they buried their past differences

This is the third death of an Australian legend cricketer in a matter of few months . Earlier the cricket world experienced the  passing away of Rodney Marsh and the unexpected death of Shane Warne . And now in another tragic news Andrew Symonds is no more .
