India’s momentous triumph in the 2011 World cup was followed by great reactions from Indian players and public figures including film personalities many of whom were present on the ground to witness history being repeated after 28 years. It also included a couple from the opposition Sri Lanka as well who were very gracious in their defeat after matching India well  almost throughout the game.

Let’s have a look of some interesting reactions on 2nd April 2011

“All credit goes to Sachin Tendulkar. We played for him. Beating Australia and Pakistan and now this, its a dream come true.”  ——- Gautam Gambhir

“I would swap that century any day for a championship medal. We fought well but it wasn’t enough. We had to take wickets to control this Indian batting line-up. We got a couple of early wickets but we couldn’t get anything going after that. We didn’t have the penetration that we normally do, and they batted very well.”
Mahela Jayawardene

“Very proud of everyone, especially Mahela who rose up to the occasion and put up a great hundred. When you look at this Indian team anything less than 350 looks less. They deserved this title, the way they played in front of a great crowd.”
——-Kumar Sangakkara

“This is unbelievable. The Under-19 World Cup, then the World Twenty20 but this is the most special. For Sachin, for everyone else.”  —- Yuvraj Singh

“I don’t think it’s going to sink for the rest of our lives. Such a special moment for all of us in the team. I am feeling on top of the world right now having contributed to the team to be World Champions. I was missing my dad a lot. I am part of the history books now. I would like to dedicate this to him, my family, coaches and of course to my idol Sachin Tendulkar.”
Virat Kohli

: “If you ask the players, they were not eating well because of anxiety. Not pressure, but anxiety. There would be food in front of you but you wouldn’t feel like eating it.”
“I  took quite a few decisions tonight, if we hadn’t won I would have been asked quite a few questions: Why no Ashwin, why Sreesanth, why no Yuvraj, why did I bat ahead?! That pushed me and motivated to do well”

MS Dhoni at the post-match presentation

“We just had too many good players. Someone was going to get a hundred, and in the end, Gautam Gambhir got (97). He was the rock of our batting line-up. We just had great players around.“There was just some thinking around … having a left-hand-right-hand combination against [Muttiah] Muralitharan. That’s why he [Dhoni] was quite keen to go up the order. He just knocked on the window, and said, ‘I want to go in next and I’d be good for that’. I was not going to say no,”
——- Gary  Kirsten

“Incredible! Its like we just won our independence. It is madness outside!! Abhishek, Aishwarya and me on top of the roof of car, waving tricolor and just screaming,”
Amitabh Bachchan

That day I saw Sachin Tendulkar dancing for the first time, for the first time he didn’t care about people around him and he was enjoying with everyone which I will always remember,” probably the first time I cried in front of everyone. That feeling was overwhelming, I didn’t know how to react”I remember sleeping with my medal on that night, when I woke up, I had the medal on me and it felt great,”
