Experts back Samson’s decision not to give strike to Morris on the last ball
Experts and former cricketers were overwhelmingly in favor of Sanju Samson deciding not to run a single off the 5th ball and take the onus himself to win the game.
Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted that Samson took the right call as there was greater possibility of Samson hitting a 6 than new batter Morris hitting a four .
Woman cricketer Snehal Pradhan also concurred saying she had no problem in Samson refusing the single as he would have backed himself to hit at least a four
Kiwi Jimmy Neesham playing for Mumbai Indians also backed Sanju , saying that the way Samson was hitting naturally he would be backing himself to go big than his partner.
Sehwag also supported Samson’s strategy to face the last ball in his match review in cricbuzz .
Samson also received backing from his team’s director of operations and former Srilankan legend Kumar Sangakkara .
“I thought Sanju backed himself to get the job done. He early did, he was five or six yards short of hitting the last ball for a six and sometimes when you’re in form and you believe you can do it, you’ve got to take that responsibility and it was really encouraging to see Sanju do that. You can always talk about a missed single here or there but what matters to me his positive attitude. The next time, I believe he will hit it 10 yards further to win us the game,” Sangakkara said .
