EngW v IndW T20Is : Superb fightback by India
After a loss in the first T20I due to the Duckworth Lewis method. India bounced back strongly to win the 2nd match and squared the series with one to play. It was a brilliant effort by the Indian spinners who choked the runs of a strong England batting order in the middle overs of a moderate chase of 149 target after India put up a mediocre score of 148 batting first. EngW v IndW T20Is : Superb fightback by India.
Sent to bat, India started steadily with both openers taking their time in the first few balls. Suddenly Shafali Verma cut loose and hammered Katherine Brunt for 5 successive fours. Through the on side in an exciting counter-attack. It was a revenge of sorts after Brunt got her out for 0 in the first match. Just when India looked like dominating Smriti (20) got out against the runoff play followed by Shafali (48) which slowed down the innings. Harmanpreet batting at 3 and in poor form suddenly broke her shackles and smote two huge sixes and a 4 to show glimpses of a return to form before being dismissed for 31 off 25 ball . Deepti (24not out) and the lower order could not force the pace and India ended at 148 /4. An under-par score after a great start.
For England Sciver (1/20 in 4 overs ) was the most economical bowle .
England did lose two early wickets but looked fluent in their chase with Beaumont and Knight in control and added 75 runs for the 3rd wicket . Beaumont (59) played gorgeous shots before she was lbw to Deepti Sharma . However, the dismissal that turned the game was Knight’s (30)run out at the non strikers end as the batsman could not reach her crease while Deepti was trying to collect the ball in front of her and the 3rd umpire judged it out .
From there the Indian spinners tightened the screws as England lost the crucial wickets of Jones , Dunkley and Brunt cheaply . The batters were choked by the tight lengths and lost their composure. Finally with last over remaining , England needed 14 but Rana once again proved her worth by giving only 5 runs to help India win by 8 runs in an exciting finish .
Player of the match Deepti Sharma (1/18 off 4 overs ) , Poonam Yadav (2/17 off 4 overs ) and Sneh Rana (0/21 off 4 overs ) bowled brilliantly under pressure situation to win the game.
With series 1-1 , the 3rd T20I promises to be a thriller .
