Batting first the Indian girls were off to a disappointing start with new star Shafali Verma (15) and Smriti Mandhana (10) getting out cheaply. Punam Raut (32) had a long partnership with skipper Mithali Raj but with two similar players who tends to play the consolidation role, the run rate of India did not pick up. After Raut left, Harmanpreet (1) when cheaply again. Later Deepti (30) played a crucial knock and supported Mithali who scored 72 off 108 balls. As India finally reached 201/8 in 50 overs. For England, their spinner Ecclestone who tormented the Indians in the Test was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets.
England had no trouble against under par bowling from the Indians. After the Indians got Hill (16 ) and Knight (18) relatively cheaply, Beaumont and Sciver went after the Indian bowling. Rattled off the target in 34 overs with Beaumont hitting a glorious 96 and Sciver an enterprising 74 as England win by 8 wickets.
Team India needs to work on their batting and run rates to have a realistic chance of competing against a strong England in the ODI series.
