England demolish Sri Lanka 3-0 in T20I series
The England vs Sri Lanka T20I series has turn out to be a hopelessly one-side affair with Sri Lanka not showing any resilience in the whole series. There was no impact knocks from any of their batsmen. The Srilankan bowlers had their odd moments or two but could not make up for their batting debacle throughout the series.
The 1st 2 matches were play at Sofia Gardens, Cardiff and the final game was held at Southampton. England demolish Sri Lanka 3-0 in T20I series.
In the first T20I, Srilanka batted first and scored 129/7. Their innings was build around 50 from Dasun Shanaka and 30 from Kusal Parera. Adil Rashid (2/17) and Sam Curran (2/25) along with others bowled superbly to restrict the tourists to a below-par total.
In reply, England knocked off the runs in 17.1 overs with Jos Buttler hitting a typically belligerent 68 not out off 55 balls. Roy hit 36 and England won by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 series lead.
The 2nd T20I at the same venue had Srilanka batting poorly to limp to 111/7 in 20 overs with Kusal Mendis top-scoring with 39. Well-controlled bowling by England bowlers gave the Lankans no respite as Mark Wood (2/18) and Adil Rashid (2/24) tormented them and got great support from Willey (0/17 of 4 overs ) and Sam Curran (1/8).
In reply, England was given a revise target of 103 due to rain interruption. The home team had a bit of a wobble at 4/36. But Sam Billings (24) and Liam Livingstone (29 not out). Ensured a win for England to win the series with a 2-0 lead with only 1 match to play.
With the series gone, Sri Lanka looked pathetic in the final game. Dawid Malan opening the batting after a long time scored a belligerent 76 off 48 balls. And had a rapid 105 opening stand with Buttler who hit another stroke-filled 51. Dushmanta Chameera bowled his heart out to get 4/17 as Srilanka restricted England to 180/6. After at one stage it looked at England may get 200 plus.
However, the tourist batting imploded again. As they digressed to a pathetic 91 to lose by 89 runs with only 3 batters reaching double figures. David Willey (3/27) on his comeback trail, bowled very well with the other southpaw Sam Curran ( 2/14 ).
Sam Curran for his superb bowling throughout the series. Was name the match of the series as England win the series 3-0.
