Eng v NZ 2nd test: NZ bowlers demolishes Eng

The England batting horrors continue to haunt them even at home. As New Zealand bowling attack completely dominated the final session push England to the brink of defeat. At 122/9 after the Black Caps took a crucial 85 run lead in the first innings.

This 2nd innings batting debacle from England was never even envisage. As the pitch had looked a batting featherbed for 2 and a half days of the test especially when New Zealand was batting on day 2 and the first session on day 3.

Starting at 229/3 the Kiwis progressed steadily in the first session with Taylor opening up and showing more confidence and intent. Some lovely drives and placing the ball in the gaps took him to a fine 80 before. He became the 5th player in the test to succumb in the 80s as he went after Stone outside off and sneaked to Bracey. Nicholls(21) who was intent to play a long innings glove Wood down the leg to be caught by Bracey.

After lunch, the England pace attack raised their game and took wickets at regular intervals but a patient 34 by Blundell. Some brave batting from the bowlers Henry (12), Ajaz Patel (20) and Boult (12*) ensured that New Zealand reaches 388 and thus take a vital 85 run lead.

The England bowlers did well especially after lunch with Broad (4/48) bowling accurately and Wood (2/85) generating the pace. Stone, Lawrence and Anderson managed two and one each respectively in their wickets column.

England 2nd innings was rattled right at the start with the normally stubborn Burns (0) edging Henry to slips. Henry was bowling superbly on the off-stump channel just moving the ball enough to catch the edges. Sibley (8) was his next victim caught at 3rd slip as he finally succumbed to Henry’s nagging accuracy. Zak Crawley (17) briefly showed signs of reviving his form before stumbling to the skills of Henry. Who brought one in to get him lbw. England 30/3.

Ollie Pope (23) showed some aggressive intent as Root’s scoring was bottle up by the Kiwi bowlers. However Wagner got into the act and a sharp break back had Pope lbw. Immediately first-innings hero, Lawrence(0) edged Wagner’s outswinger. Bracey’s(9) batting horror in test cricket continued as he exposed his stumps trying for an ungainly sweep to Ajaz Patel with England badly tottering at 71/6.

Eng v NZ 2nd test: NZ bowlers demolishes Eng, on brink of series win.. It soon became 76/7 as finally, Root (11) succumbed to Ajaz as he tried to cut him. Thus ended his painstaking stay for 61 balls in which all his scoring areas were bottle up by the New Zealand bowlers.

Some brave hitting by Wood (29) took England’s score past the New Zealand lead. But the token resistance was breach as Wood skied Wagner to the keeper and Broad (1) was ripped apart by Boult. Ollie Stone (15) remained to fight another day as England ended the 3rd day hopelessly placed at 122/9 and only 37 ahead.

The New Zealand bowlers reduced the final day to a mere formality now. Wagner (3/18) and Henry (3/36) were the heroes while Ajaz (2/25) took 2 and Boult got the final wicket of the day.

The final day should be over by lunch time .
