Eng v NZ 1st test

The 1st test between England and New Zealand finally ended in a tame draw with the 3rd day watched out fully due to rain .

On day 5 the Blackcaps batted till lunch showing aggressive intentions scoring 106 more runs after starting the day at 63/2. Due to the slowness of the pitch and good bowling by England , runs were not flowing at the pace New Zealand were looking for . Cameos from Ross Taylor (33) , Henry Nicholls (23) and Tom Latham (36) helped the Kiwis to reach 169/6 . Ollie Robinson continued to impress with 3/26 for England.

This New Zealand set a target of 272 for England to chase in Eng v NZ 1st test.

In reply England lost 2 quick wickets after a 49 run opening stand with Burns(25) and Crawley (2) dismissed in quick succession. To put some pressure on Sibley and Root. However both batted sensibly realising that the pitch was not ideal for quick scoring . Wagner had Root lbw for 40 . However Sibley (60) and Ollie Pope (20) ensured no further damage and England ended the day at 170/3 to ensure a draw.

Devon Conway as expected took the man of the match award in a game that saw fine performances from Tim Southee. Rory Burns and the other debutant Ollie Robinson.
