Duplessis worried about the increasing spread of T20 leagues
Former South African captain Faf Duplessis is worried that mushrooming of T20 leagues around the world is a serious threat to international cricket. He feels that the current trend can reduce the international fixtures like the various bilateral series amongst international teams. He feels that gradually the T20 leagues will have more power so much so that in 10 years down the line. Cricket can become like soccer where there is a total dominance of various leagues and top international tournaments are held at 4-year intervals.
Faf said that initially at the start there were just a couple of T20 leagues. But now it has spread alarmingly with 6-7 leagues around the around. Duplessis worried about the increasing spread of T20 leagues.
Faf feels that it was the West Indies top cricketers. Who started the trend by moving away from their international teams. Started playing in all the lucrative leagues as a result the West Indies cricket has suffered. As their top players get increasingly unavailable for International cricket. Now even the South Africans have started following the same with more and more top players swaying towards these leagues.
Finally, Duplessis had urged that all the International boards should work together to strike a proper balance between T20 leagues. International cricket so that both coexists.
Faf who is in UAE for completion of the PSL league and plays under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmed for Peshawar Zalmi. Also compared the captaincy styles of Sarfraz, Kohli and Dhoni.
