Dhoni made it clear that he will be the Team India mentor only for T20I World cup : Sourav Ganguly 

The most interesting news in Indian cricket till the news of the change over of white ball captaincy came up, has been the appointment of MS Dhoni as the mentor of Team India during the T20I World cup. 


Rumours were in the air about a possibility of Dhoni taking over the hot seat after Ravi Shastri ends his tenure as Indian coach. With Rahul Dravid re-applying for the head of cricket operations at NCA, Dhoni’s appointment as the mentor had the Indian cricket fraternity working overtime in trying to make predictions on a possibility of a  bigger role for Dhoni.

However, it is now effectively nipped in the bud by the BCCI head Sourav Ganguly, who made it clear in an interview that Dhoni has requested to be considered as a mentor only of the T20I World cup.
“Ms Dhoni has made it clear to us that he will be the mentor of Indian only during the time of T20 World Cup 2021.” Sourav Ganguly said

With Dhoni putting himself out of the contention for the hot seat, the options are open for the BCCI to look for an appropriate candidate and as of now Vikram Rathour , the batting coach who has been in his post for the last 2 years is considered to be the leading candidate for the post .
