India had been playing ODI against Sri Lanka and the series has already been bagged by Indian players. But this victory did not bring the happiness that everybody was hoping for. lost the final ODI to the host team by three wickets which certainly was an unexpected turn of events. India had opted to bat first and started strong reaching 147/3 before the rain started. The match had to be interrupted for the next 90 minutes. When players came back on the pitch, the magic was lost. Praveen Jayawickrama and Akila Dananjaya proved to be fatal for the Indian team as the team lost 6 wickets for 68 runs. 

Shikhar Dhawan did not like to lose being the captain of the team. Admitted that the match did not go as per the plan. He also mentioned the new players who were given an opportunity to make their debut in this match. Despite a good start, the team lost wickets in the middle overs and by the end, it was short of 50 runs. 

Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Rahul Chahar, Krishnappa Gaowtham, and Chetan Sakariya had received their ODI caps in this match and good things were expected out of them but sadly, it did not happen. Fans had expected a few changes in the team for the last match. But 6 changes were a lot out of which 5 were debutants. Dhawan doesn’t regret giving chance to five debutants in the last ODI against Sri Lanka.

Dhawan didn’t regret these debuts though. He said that he was glad to see these players on the field as they have been in quarantine for a long time. He also pointed out that so many changes could be made because India already had sealed the series.

Dhawan seemed quite pleased with his team and himself as he collected the trophy. Dhawan doesn’t regret giving chance to five debutants in the last ODI against Sri Lanka. He praised the team for putting up such a strong front. He was happy with the efforts even though the efforts did not prove to be enough in the last match.

Dhawan also expressed that he was looking forward to the T20 series. And also how he could improve himself and his game. He had hoped to win the last match as well but that couldn’t happen. The captain was happy with the fight that the team put up.
