Delhi cruise to a 7 wicket win as Punjab stumble again

Punjab Kings losing regular captain KL Rahul with an appendicitis issue before the game stumbled again losing to Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. This loss will be a further setback to their playoffs aspirations and this result widens the gap between the top four and bottom four teams in IPL.

Punjab Kings losing regular captain KL Rahul with an appendicitis issue before the game stumbled again losing to Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets.. Mayank Agarwal led Punjab in the absence of Rahul. Punjab batted first and despite the loss of Prabhsimran and Gayle cheaply reached 87/2 by the 13th over with Mayank Agarwal playing a magnificent innings. He was dropped twice off tough chances and played excellent shots on both sides of the pitch and down the ground. One pull for 6 off Rabada over midwicket was an outstanding shot.

He had a productive 52 run stand with Dawid Malan (26) who was shaping up well till he was knocked over by Axar. However, the lower order struggled with him and it was exclusively the outstanding solo effort by the stand-in captain that took Punjab to 166/6. Mayank, unfortunately, could not complete his hundred, remaining not out at 99 off 58 balls.

Delhi cruise to a 7 wicket win as Punjab stumble again. The Delhi bowling attack was effective as usual with Axar being as accurate as ever and Rabada picking up 3 wickets.

In reply, the Capitals started in excellent fashion rattling up 63 runs within the powerplay with Shaw and Dhawan hitting excellent shots, particularly on the offside. The Punjab bowlers tried their best but the target set was at least 25 runs short. Harpreet after his exploits against RCB excelled again giving away only 19 runs in 3 overs and getting a rampaging Prithvi Shaw (39) bowled by a classic left-arm spinners delivery that pitched and spun away past the bat to beat the defensive shot.

However, Dhawan (69 not out ) looked in fluent touch yet again having yet another productive partnership with Smith (24). Later Pant (14) tried to force the pace to enhance the net run rate but got out which brought Hetmyer who slammed few big hits in his 16 off 4 balls to take the team over the line in the 18th over.

Amongst the Punjab bowling, Brar was outstanding and Meredith bowled with good pace in the game.

With this win, Delhi will now challenge for the top two spots in the points table while Punjab suffered a further setback to their qualification hopes.

Mayank Agarwal for his wonderful innings was declared the man of the match though his team ended up losing the match.
