Punjab batted first and despite the loss of Prabhsimran and Gayle cheaply reached 87/2 by the 13th over with Mayank Agarwal playing a magnificent innings. He was dropped twice off tough chances and played excellent shots on both sides of the pitch and down the ground. One pull for 6 off Rabada over midwicket was an outstanding shot.
He had a productive 52 run stand with Dawid Malan (26) who was shaping up well till he was knocked over by Axar. In reply, the Capitals started in excellent fashion rattling up 63 runs within the powerplay with Shaw and Dhawan hitting excellent shots, particularly on the offside. The Punjab bowlers tried their best but the target set was at least 25 runs short. Harpreet after his exploits against RCB excelled again giving away only 19 runs in 3 overs and getting a rampaging Prithvi Shaw (39) bowled by a classic left-arm spinners delivery that pitched and spun away past the bat to beat the defensive shot.
However, Dhawan (69 not out ) looked in fluent touch yet again having yet another productive partnership with Smith (24). Later Pant (14) tried to force the pace to enhance the net run rate but got out which brought Hetmyer who slammed few big hits in his 16 off 4 balls to take the team over the line in the 18th over.
