It was one of the most one sided game after a series of thrillers. Deepak Chahar bowled with skill and Moeen Ali played delightful shots as CSK had it easy vs Punjab Kings at Mumbai.
Sent to bat first Punjab were in trouble straightaway as Deepak Chahar got one to pitch and strengthen to elude Mayank Agarwal’s defensive bat as the ball hit top of off. It was a dream dismissal specially for an outswong bowler. Chahar followed up with wickets of Gayle ( brilliantly caught by Jadeja) and Pooran who went for the hook off a short ball and hit straight to fine leg. Meanwhile Rahul was brilliantly runout by Jadeja with a razor sharp throw. The powerplay rout was complete with the wicket of Hooda who was caught off a drive to provide Chahar with his 4th wicket. Punjab tottering at 26/5.
Finally the recovery came in the form of Shahrukh Khan (47 off 36 balls) who played sensibly and scored effectively off loose balls. This innings will give him the much needed confidence going forward in this event. He had a few small but useful lower order stands with Jhye Richardson (15), Ashwin and Shami which helped Punjab to reach 106/8 in 20 overs.
Chennai lost Gaikwad cheaply but Faf Duplessis (36notout) had a fine stand with Moeen Ali (46) who played well timed and delightful shots till his dismissal led to quick wickets of Raina and Rayudu with Shami causing some damage. However the total was too small for CSK to be challenged .
Deepak Chahar won the man of the match for his skilful bowling and 4 very important wickets. He bowled with skills and got good swing and carry from the Wankhede pitch like Chris Woakes was getting the previous day.
