Rohit Sharma is always associated with sublime batting and match winning knocks for Mumbai Indians or India. Very early in his career he actually used to bowl decent off spin which is hardly remembered by his fans .
It so happened that Rohit Sharma was an unlikely hero with his bowling very early in IPL history. In 2009 edition played in South Africa due to general elections in India, Rohit’s earliest IPL team Deccan Chargers led by Adam Gilchrist in that year played one of their Deccan Chargers vs Mumbai Indians 2009. It was a low scoring game as Deccan Chargers somehow struggled to reach 145 in their batting innings with a top score of 38 by Rohit.
In reply Mumbai Indians whom Rohit was to lead to 5 titles in future, appeared to be cruising at 97/4 around 15 over mark and looked poised to win. Adam Gilchrist took a chance and handed over the ball to Rohit in the 16th over.
Of the 5th ball of his over Rohit bowled Abhishek Nayar behind his legs as he tried to sweep. Next ball, Harbhajan went for a big sweep and was castled. And off the 1st ball of the 18th over J P Duminy having completed a fifty offered catch down the leg side which was taken smartly by Gilchrist to enable Rohit complete a sensational hattrick.
Mumbai Indians just disintegrated from there to lose the match by 19 runs and it was possible due to the sensational hattrick by Rohit Sharma against all odds.
