Chennai Super Kings was one of the first teams to reach UAE for their IPL 2021 phase 2 event and their preparations are on full swing with remaining overseas stars and the Indian test players joining the squad . However , they are shaken by a big news from millions of miles away .
Faf Duplessis , their mainstay batsman in last several seasons has suffered a crucial groin injury while playing in the Caribbean Premier League and is apparently out for several matches . Faf plays for Saint Lucia Kings and on the day of the match against Barbados Royals , stand in captain Andre Fletcher revealed Faf’s injury . Duplessis is in fine form in the CPL having hit a 100 in previous match.
For CSK also , he was going through a purple patch. The team had a poor season in 2020 when they were knocked out of the playoffs for the very first time in IPL history, but he was one of the shining lights with 446 runs with 4 fifties including the highest score of 87* at a strike rate of 140.75. Even in the first half of the IPL 2021, he has 320 runs in 7 matches with the best of 95* at an average of 64.00 and a strike rate of 145.45. He has currently forged a great opening stand with Ruturaj Gaekwad and they have been providing great starts for CSK . Duplessis’ overall IPL record is outstanding too as he has piled on 2622 runs in 91 matches at an average of 34.96 and a strike rate of 131.03.
Apart from his batting skills , he is a brilliant outfielder for CSK and capable of pulling off great catches.
Hence the Faf groin injury news is a massive blow for CSK . Surely their management will be keeping their fingers crossed and would be hoping that Duplessis gets fit sooner than later .
