The greatest ever Indian track and field athlete, the legendary “Flying Sikh” Milkha Singh finally passed away at 91 a few days after getting cured of Covid. Therefore, it may be recalled that his wife had passed away just 5 days ago succumbing to covid.
Milkha Singh is regarded as the greatest ever Indian athlete in track and field events. Born in Pakistan he had great life struggles as he came to India after partition. His greatest moment was winning the gold in 400 metres in the 1958 Commonwealth Games which till date remains the only individual medal in track events by an Indian in Commonwealth Games. However, his most famous moment came in the 1960 Olympics 400 metres final when he missed the bronze by 1/10 th of a second agonizingly.
