VVS Laxman lashed out at the Chennai pitch extremely disappointing after Sunrisers got their first victory this season at Chennai, batting second against Punjab Kings in a low scoring, unspectacular match.
Laxman said that though he feels that there should be something for the bowlers on pitches prepared for T20 cricket, the Chennai pitch is far too much tilted in favour of bowling with strokeplay very difficult to execute on such a slow surface. Laxman added that he is relieved that after the match against Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers will no longer play in Chennai and move to another venue.
It may be recalled that the Chennai pitch was the subject of much criticism by the experts with Brett Lee, Stokes and Parthiv raising their voices.
Laxman further added that Natarajan’s injury and his unavailability for the remainder of the IPL will hurt Sunrisers. VVS said that when Bhuvneshwar was unavailable due to injury last year, Natarajan grabbed his chance and made a difference. Hence his absence this year will be felt. Laxman expected that Natarajan will recover quickly from his injury as he has tremendous work ethics.
Laxman further added that Khaleel Ahmed has shown his ability by quickly adjusting himself by playing “ Nattu’s” role and performed superbly in the games he played.
