Chahal expected a call up to the test side when England toured India in February
Yazuvendra Chahal has been undergoing a rough phase in his career since the 2019 World Cup. Chahal who formed a lethal bowling combination in white-ball cricket along with Kuldeep Yadav since 2017 and was a big part of many Indian wins in the 2017-19 period has struggled along with Kuldeep as both his economy rate and his bowling average in T20Is and ODIs have gone up.
However, Chahal maintained that he was doing well in domestic first-class cricket in the last 3-4 years. Claiming 50 wickets in 10 games of which two were India. A matches and therefore was expecting a callup in India’s Test squad before England’s tour of India in February especially after Ashwin and Jadeja were coming off injuries in Australia. However, it was Axar Patel who got his chance and did very well in the tests.
Chahal expected a call up to the test side when England toured India in February. Chahal has however conceded that now it is difficult for him to break through. As both Ashwin and Jadeja are back at their best and Axar doing well in home tests. Hence now he feels he has to show improved performances to have any future hopes of a Test debut which is a dream for him.
