Breaking news: Taliban leaders meet Afghan cricketers

As the whole world has its eyes on the happenings in Afghanistan, the cricket fraternity is also worried about the future of Afghanistan cricket. Pakistan is supposed to play an ODI series with Afghanistan in Sri Lanka from 1st September. But they are awaiting the latest scenario and is yet to announce the Pakistan squad.


In the meantime, some heartening breaking news has come from Afghanistan. The Taliban leaders led by Anas Haqqani have today met the Afghanistan cricket captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Along with a few other cricketers and a former chief selector. In the meeting, they had pledged full support for Afghanistan cricket.


The Taliban in the meeting had asserted that the Islamic Emirate laid the foundation of cricket in Afghanistan.

This meeting has come days after the extremists group had met former Afghan captain Asghar Afghan.  Images of the Taliban representatives feasting with Afghan and taking selfies were shared by sources of republic TV India.

Breaking news: Taliban leaders meet Afghan cricketers , pledges support for cricket. This might be good news for those Afghan cricketers like Rashid Khan. Mohammed Nabi who are presently in other countries playing franchisee leagues. Both Rashid and Nabi expressed worries on their future in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the nation.

Thus with this meeting happening between the Taliban and the nation’s cricket representatives. It remains to be seen whether this will lead the way to a positive development in Afghanistan cricket in the current Taliban regime.
